Making Mandela Day Count: Kruger Shalati Brings Joy to Happy Homes Pre-School
Nelson Mandela famously said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” With this spirit in mind, Kruger Shalati celebrated Mandela Day by spending time at Happy Homes Pre-school, bringing much-needed improvements, laughter, and smiles to the children and their teachers.
Happy Homes is always a favourite stop on our community tours, giving our guests a chance to spend quality time engaging with the wonderful children and dedicated teachers. Our visits facilitate heartfelt interactions, and guests often generously contribute donations directly to the school. Last year, our Heads of Department went the extra mile, painting the playgroup area and coordinating the donation of a fantastic trampoline that continues to delight the little ones.
Why Happy Homes?
Our connection with Happy Homes goes beyond simple visits. Last November, the pre-school suffered significant storm damage. Fallen trees broke fences and severely damaged the playground, leaving the children without a safe place to play for seven long months. Kruger Shalati stepped in immediately, providing fencing materials and hands-on assistance to repair and secure the school’s perimeter.
Mandela Day presented us with another wonderful opportunity to further support Happy Homes. This year, our dedicated team spent the day:
- Painting classrooms and freshening up spaces to inspire learning.
- Clearing weeds and overgrown grass to ensure a safe and clean play environment.
- Rebuilding the jungle gym to give the children a safe and fun place to play again.
- Providing nutritious meals for all 75 enthusiastic and grateful children.
- Raising additional funds to support the school’s ongoing feeding scheme.
Another critical need was security for the newly built dining hall, which lacked burglar-proofing, making it impossible for the school to safely store equipment and supplies. Through the generous contributions facilitated by Kruger Shalati, burglar-proofing installation is underway and scheduled for completion by next week.
It’s incredibly fulfilling to see the children once again enjoying their playground, their laughter echoing as they swing, climb, and play. At Kruger Shalati, we believe deeply in uplifting our community, honouring Mandela’s legacy through acts of kindness, generosity, and genuine care.
