Job Description:

Kruger Shalati, one of Africa’s most iconic luxury hospitality experiences, is seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Maintenance Manager to join its management team. Situated in the heart of the Kruger National Park, this extraordinary property offers a rare opportunity to work in a setting where innovation meets heritage—perched above the Sabie River on a historic railway bridge, with wildlife as your daily backdrop. As part of a high-performing leadership team, the Maintenance Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless operation and upkeep of this uniquely engineered hotel.

The position demands a proactive, hands-on professional with a strong sense of discipline, technical expertise, and a commitment to excellence. The successful candidate must be an all-round hands-on person who will be able to independently run the maintenance department. The successful candidate must be self-disciplined, qualified in the maintenance of electrical, refrigeration, plumbing, carpentry etc. Experience is crucial for this role. The successful candidate should also be able to do administrative duties, as financial planning & preventative maintenance planning form part of the duties for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Maintenance Manager in a similar-sized hospitality operation:

Formal qualification in engineering or a related technical field will be advantageous. Must be qualified or experienced in at least one of the following disciplines:

  • Electrical (single & three phase)
  • Refrigeration & Air-conditioning

Must have general experience in:

  • Plumbing
  • Building & general maintenance
  • Strong administrative and planning capabilities, including budgeting and reporting
  • Self-disciplined, proactive, and capable of working independently in a remote setting

Key Output:

Independently manage the maintenance department across all disciplines – Conduct and supervise repairs and preventative maintenance across electrical (single & three phase), refrigeration, air-conditioning, plumbing, building, and general infrastructure – Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules and ensure compliance with safety standards – Manage departmental budgets and contribute to financial planning and reporting – Support operational continuity through strategic planning and timely interventions – Maintain high standards of presentation and functionality across guest and staff areas

Communication:

Maintain open communication channels with the hotel general manager or operations manager and ensure that clear feedback loops are in place to ensure that status reports on problems are fed back to those who have reported them. Hold frequent meetings with hotel manager and operations manager.

Will have a morning meeting with maintenance staff and make sure that good teamwork exists and that systems and procedures are adhered to guest relations. Ensure that when interacting with guests in the hotel environment that you are well presented, friendly and courteous.
