Kruger Shalati would like to announce a new vacant position in the capacity of Head Guide.

Kruger Shalati – The Train on the Bridge, is looking for a professional and passionate Head Guide to lead our guiding team and ensure exceptional guest experiences. This role is perfect for someone with strong leadership qualities, a deep knowledge of the bush, and a passion for conservation and storytelling. If you’re ready to lead game drive experiences in one of the world’s most iconic national parks – surrounded by lions, elephants, and leopards – then this might be your dream opportunity.

Education

  • A FGASA Level 2 or higher qualification (completed theory and practical) – essential
  • Full Trails Guide qualification – advantageous
  • DEAT/THETA Registration – advantageous
  • Valid First Aid Certificate – essential
  • Valid South African Code 8 Driver’s License with PDP – essential

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years experience as a Senior Field Guide or Head Guide in a Big Five reserve or similar environment
  • Leadership or supervisory experience in a guiding team – strongly preferred

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Proven ability to mentor, guide, and inspire team members
  • Organised, reliable, and professional
  • Proficient in English (additional languages beneficial)
  • High standard of guest engagement and bush interpretation

Key Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

  • Lead and supervise the guiding team
  • Manage game drive schedules and vehicle allocation
  • Ensure all guides deliver world-class guest experiences
  • Assist in ongoing training and development of junior guides
  • Maintain and uphold all safety protocols and park regulations
  • Report directly to General Manager and provide regular updates
  • Handle guest queries and feedback regarding guided experiences
  • Promote a culture of conservation and eco-tourism awareness
